Most of us in construction are still deemed “essential” activities. With that said, you probably have questions:
How do I keep my employees safe?
What if my job gets shut down?
How do we keep paying our employees if our jobs shut down and the company has no income?
Where do I get the PPE that my employees may need?
How do I keep my jobs and equipment safe and healthy?
These are just a few of the many questions going through contractor’s (and our) minds at this point. The good thing is that the Construction Industry Safety Coalition, a group of nearly 50 construction associations, has published a document to help assist with job site direction on how to deal with the COVID-19. Download it here from MCAA and edit it for the needs of your construction company. This won’t help you with how to handle job shut-downs or pay/leave policies, but at least it this helps with how to set up policies and procedures to keep your team safe.
Like any other policy, be sure you communicated it with your employees- otherwise, it’s only as good as the paper it’s printed on, which also brings up whether you should even hand it out- maybe just email it and have remote meetings to discuss. Use their tip of doing toolbox talks while maintaining the CDC-recommended 6-ft social distancing and do NOT use a sign-in sheet.
Stay safe and healthy, my friends! As always, Spec Rents continues to be committed to providing our customers with safety and productivity, so if you have any questions, please feel free to call or text Liz Graves at 512.633.5437 or email at lizg@specrents.com.
